Our visit to New Orleans last January fulfilled its objective of showcasing the new pedagogies and perspectives we have studied in contemporary Golden Age performances. On this occasion, during our participation in the MLA's annual conference, we were fortunate to invite Israel Franco-Müller to share his academic and artistic expertise with our audience. The project's directors, Erin Cowling and Glenda Nieto-Cuebas, research assistants Lorena Rojas and Natalia Soracipa, and Israel discussed how Golden Age texts can be taught and staged to diverse audiences. During the discussion, the Siglo Latinx team highlighted the need to include contemporary elements in the pedagogies and artistic creations to engage young audiences in these ancient narratives. Music and lighting become essential tools for achieving this goal in theater. Furthermore, finding similarities between our students' contemporary lives and those of the characters plays a relevant role when teaching these authors and texts in the classroom.
In 2025, we will continue to nourish our project with the perspectives Latinx artists promote through their performances and research in Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
